How To Sponsor A New Member-2019-2020

Any Westham Garden Club member who wishes to sponsor a new member must be active in the club for at least one year and have paid her dues. Each garden club member may sponsor three prospective members during a given year. Each prospective member must attend one meeting with a member and must be introduced to the Second Vice President/Membership Chair or to the President. The member will then write a letter (not an email) proposing membership to the membership chairman. The letter must include the member’s name, the prospective member’s name, address, telephone number and email address, proposed member’s husband’s full name, date of meeting attended and three or four sentences to include specific club committees or areas of interest and personal thoughts about the proposed member and her interest in becoming a member. A general statement such as “She is interested in gardening” is not sufficient.

The membership chairman will read the letters at the first board meeting after the letter is received and a vote will be held at that time. The new members will be announced at the first club meeting after the board meeting. New members will be sent a letter from the membership chairman informing them of their acceptance into the club and providing information about where to send dues. Once dues have been paid, the new member’s information will be entered on the website, and the new member will receive all correspondence.

In the fall, prospective members who attend either the September or October general meeting will be voted on at the next board meeting. There is no board meeting in December and any prospective member who attends the November meeting will not be voted on until the January board meeting. The kissing ball workshops in December are not considered to be regular meetings.
